So you've reached your wit's end. Too much alcohol, too much junk food, no exercise, and little sleep. You've basically become a big fat lazy mess, you're fed up but and don't know what to do. You then have a great idea! Eureka "I will go on a detox" During your slob hours laid up in bed with crumbs on your chest you've been scrolling through Facebook and Instagram, looking at all these super skinny and super ripped "Influencers" and they're saying "Do my 7 day detox! you will lose 10 KG! and look like me." because you are desperate and gullible you buy into it and buy the detox plan.
It's that or you follow a celebrities lemon water only detox and basically starve yourself into losing weight, not knowing that you're damaging your bodies metabolic rate. The same thing applies for all those fad diets you see. Sure you'll lose some weight but when you go back to eating like a regular human being and not a rabbit, you will gain the weight back plus an extra 8-10% My two cents
Personally I am not a big fan of detoxing. For me it's somewhere between "toning" and women getting "bulky" after a week of weightlifting. If you are going on detox to lose weight it's a bad idea. Do we really need to detox the body? I mean is the body so inefficient that the millions of years of evolution have gone down the drain? If the body was incapable of removing toxins we would have gone extinct a long time ago. If you are eating, drinking exercising and resting correctly then there is no need to go on a detox as your liver is already doing a great job. When should you detox?
Do you have a terrible diet? rarely exercise? do you not drink enough water? If you answered yes to these questions, then, shame on you! But It's not the end of the World you can change your lifestyle and become healthy. Although if you suffer from bloating, food intolerance's, low energy levels, constantly tired, frequent illness. Then going on detox can help you. IF done correctly.
My effective "detox" that actually works!
This detox is not a quick 5 day one like you see on the internet or Facebook. This will take time. 4 to 8 weeks sometimes even longer depending on the person.
1. Cut out all processed foods and drinks.
2. Figure out how much water you need, on a daily basis. Go ahead and read my blog on water to find this out.
3. Eat the correct amount of calories needed for your body. Find out what your BMR (basal metabolic rate) and TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is and base your calorie intake of that. There are online calculators that can help you with this.
4. For the next process you have to start to remove certain foods from your diet. Such as diary, gluten, eggs, wine and chocolate along with many more but these are a few the main ones. This is an elimination process, so remove one by one. Start with dairy and completely remove this from your diet for 2 weeks. If you notice a big difference in your body e.g weight loss, energy increase. This shows you are intolerant to the food you cut out of your diet. Now you can make sure by slowly reintroducing the food back into your diet and see if you start to deteriorate. If you do then completely remove it from your diet. Repeat this process for the other foods.
5. Try to exercise everyday, even if it's just a 30 min walk. You should also try to exercise at a moderate to high intensity 3-5 days a week for 60 minutes.Do this and you will feel like a different person. Thanks for reading and don't believe everything you read! If you see something that seems too good to be true, it is and someone is just after your money! Unless you are reading something written by me then its 100% true RIAR = Richard is always right
